After the war many advances in the production and use of aircraft were pioneered at the Aeromarine. Included were the design of a plane which was the forerunner of the Martin bomber, the design of which were prototypes of the Piper Cub. The first mail drop on a ship at sea originated at the Aeromarine, as did the first commercial airline and the first flight from the United States to Cuba. The self-starter for planes was developed here and the first enclosed cabins appeared on planes from the Aeromarine.
The work at the Aeromarine provides a colorful chapter in the history of Keyport and though it never achieved commercial success and ultimately closed in 1936, the men who participated in these experiments deserve to be remembered for their efforts as aviation pioneers.
Keyport's First Aid Squad, though not a first, was the second squad to be organized in New Jersey. In the early years following its organization in 1927, it answered calls from a number of communities, South Amboy, Matawan, Marlboro, Old Bridge, Red Bank, Atlantic Highlands, and Colts Neck. The need for such squads was soon recognized and the Keyport team spearheaded the organization and training of many squads in outlying communities.
Throughout the passing years, Keyport's shops, restaurants and small manufacturers continued to serve the borough as well as the surrounding towns. It is noted in the History of Keyport published in 1930, the town's centennial year that "...in 1834 there were in Keyport a good landing, two taverns, three stores and ten or twelve houses. Three years later there were twenty houses and a population of one hundred. In 1846 there were seventy houses, two stores, one public house, two docks and ten or twelve mechanic shops."
