Century Home Program

Part of Keyport’s unique charm is the remarkable diversity of architectural styles found throughout the Borough. Homes built across three centuries — from the 1700s through the early 1900s — reflect the rich history and character of our community. The Keyport Historical Society is proud to celebrate and preserve these treasured homes through our Century Home Plaque Program.

If you are the proud owner of a home built 100 or more years ago, your property may qualify as an official Keyport Century Home.

A key part of the Keyport Historical Society’s mission is to protect, present, and promote the history of our Borough and its people. By archiving photographs, histories, memories, and the unique stories of Keyport’s historic homes, we continue to fulfill that mission for future generations.

Homes that have stood for more than a century have earned the distinction of being recognized as Keyport Century Homes — and homeowners have the opportunity to proudly display that heritage for all to see.

The 7” x 10” Century Home Plaque is available for a nominal cost of $100. Each plaque includes Velcro mounting material for easy attachment to your home, though it may also be screwed into place or hung using traditional picture-hanging methods.

Recognizing Keyport Century Homes

Documentation Requirements

To qualify, homeowners must provide documentation verifying the original construction date of the home. This is typically done by submitting an original deed or other supporting records that establish the age of the property.

Many homeowners begin their research through the Monmouth County Archives, a division of the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office. The Archives are an excellent resource for discovering when a house was built, who built it, previous owners, and other fascinating details about a property’s history. Their online databases and archived records can help establish a “chain of title,” also known as a deed trail.
