A Shipwreck Tale: The Identification of Captain Henry Goodsell after 180 Years of the New Jersey Coast.
Genealogist Julian Rebelo will share how his team used investigative genetic genealogy—a groundbreaking technique more recently applied toward solving criminal cold cases and identifying unknown human remains—to help uncover the identity of Captain Henry Goodsell, whose bones were discovered along the New Jersey shoreline nearly two centuries after his death.
But the mystery doesn’t end there.
Julian will also shed light on some of the thousands of shipwrecks off the coast of New Jersey, including several wrecks with ties to Keyport and the Sandy Hook Bay—stories submerged in our coastal past that continue to shape our understanding of the region.
Discover how modern science is helping uncover forgotten chapters of New Jersey's maritime history.
