Mini Park

Now

Mini Park occupies a gentle rise overlooking Waterfront Park and Raritan Bay, offering one of the most picturesque vantage points in Keyport. A walkway descends directly into Waterfront Park, physically linking downtown to the shoreline. Today it serves as a gathering space for concerts, ceremonies, and community events — a literal and symbolic bridge between the business district and the bay.

Then

Before becoming green space, this site was part of Keyport’s commercial storefront row, lined with a variety of small businesses that served the daily needs of the community. Among them was the Keyport Weekly, which operated here before relocating across the street in the early 1900s.

In later years, a well-loved candy store occupied this spot, where children would stop on their way to the nearby Surf Theatre—later known as The Strand—to buy inexpensive treats. The block bustled with everyday activity, its storefront windows reflecting the rhythm of town life.

After the aging wooden buildings were demolished, the Borough reimagined the space as the tiered Mini Park seen today—an open, elevated overlook that connects both physically and visually to Waterfront Park below.

Standing here today, the sweeping views of the bay replace the storefronts of the past, yet this space continues to draw people together—sustaining the energy and connection at the heart of Keyport’s town center.
