Marie Cottrell Main Street Park
Now
This community recreation park on the fringe of the Henry Hudson Trail was renovated in 2019 to provide the residents of Keyport with an active skate park, playground, and a tee-ball field — affording public recreation space to support everyday life in town. The park was named in recognition of the contributions of Marie E. Cottrell who served the town in many capacities including Executive Director of the Greater Keyport Area Chamber of Commerce from 1977-1987.
Then
This site was once Keyport Station, a passenger train station of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. Built in 1890, many passengers boarded the train in Keyport to commute to Woodbridge, Newark and New York City. Service ended in 1966, and unfortunately the station was lost to fire in 1968. Standing here today, where trains once carried residents beyond Keyport, this space now brings the community together in new ways.
