Then
This park sits just behind the former West Keyport School, which faced Washington Street. Built in 1907, the school served grammar-age students on this side of town until it was lost to fire in 1988. It was one of two neighborhood schools, paired with the East Keyport School—now the Keyport Senior Center—built to serve families based on where they lived. Children once walked to school each day, their assigned building determined by geography—much as neighborhood boundaries continue to shape community life today. Standing here today, the laughter of children continues a long tradition of learning and growing in this neighborhood space.
